Postdoctoral Project:

Dr. Cobos is designing a robotic arm and a robotic hand with 3 fingers for underwater manipulations.

This system will be teleoperated by a joystick with force feedback for telerobotic applications. Also, this robotic device will be used in underwater robots in order to do manipulation tasks in underwater environments.

Biography:

Salvador Cobos received his B. Sc. In engineering degree in Industrial Robotics from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (I.P.N.), Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica (E.S.I.M.E.), Mexico, in July 2003, another Engineering degree in Automation and Industrial Electronics (Five year program) from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (U.P.M.), Spain, in December 2009, the Advances Studies Diploma in Robotics and Automation from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in December 2007, and his Ph. D. In Robotics and Automation from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in December 2010. The mark obtained was “Sobresaliente Cum Laude” (The maximum mark).

During his Ph. D., S. Cobos was working in the European Project IMMERSENCE from January 2006 until March 2010. He was co-director of the U.P.M. team and he was collaborating in the design of a human hand model and simplified models of the human hand for virtual manipulation tasks. Also, he was collaborating in several scientific reports (Deliverables) about the U.P.M. project in the section modeling and rendering of this European Project.

S. Cobos received several scholarship awards from Conacyt, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and IMMERSENCE project.
Recently in March 2011, Dr. Cobos is doing a Postdoctoral Research about underwater manipulation at the French-Mexican Laboratory on Computer Science and Control LAFMIA UMI CNRS 3175.

His research topics are: Human hand modeling, Grasping, Robotics, Haptics, Virtual Reality and Telerobotics.
